Poker is an art and a science, so learning to play poker well enough to consistently win means you will have to learn the art of reading tells, concealing your own thoughts and feelings, and reading the other players, or table. It doesn’t matter what game of poker you are playing, Holdem, baseball, draw, etc. You also must know the science, that is the statistics. Being able to quickly figure pot odds and how many outs there are is just part of the science.
What this means is that you must have a good memory to remember who bet what and when so you can put that other player on a straight or high pair or whatever he or she had, to avoid disaster, or call a bluff. Part of this is memory and the rest is instincts. Some people say you are born with instincts. While it is true that some people have some good instincts they have developed during their lives that come in handy in poker, the best poker players have developed their instincts way beyond what other people have been born with.
While the two key ingredients are memory and instinct, sometimes called intuition, there are other subtleties involved, such as confidence. So the question becomes, how does a person develop his or her instincts, memory, confidence?
One way is practice, but let’s face it, practice takes a very long time and isn’t always productive. While you may learn some things by playing in poker tournaments, you can also take a beating and lose your confidence, so practice alone can be counter-productive.
But there is a way to build confidence, improve your memory, even to develop your intuition to a high degree and do it very quickly. All these traits can be super tuned using little known but highly effective hypnosis techniques. Did you know many pro golfers and other athletes regularly use guided imagery and hypnosis to improve their confidence and their skills? It is true.
Your mind is your only real asset or liability in poker. It is either sharper than the other guy’s or you lose. That is why, though you may read many books on the subject, you still lose. He has the inner confidence, intuition, memory. You will not develop any of those traits reading a book. The only way is to practice self hypnosis every day using a guided imagery hypnosis tape, cd, or mp3.
To answer your question, how long does it take? Sometimes just weeks and improvement can happen in just days, but only if you actually do it. Reading about poker and watching tournaments on TV is okay, but to really progress to being a great player, you must improve your mind and the science of hypnosis is the best and fastest way.
