Win More on the Lottery - My 5 Tips 20 Aug 2008
Nearly everyone dreams of winning ‘the big one’, the Jackpot and whilst most of the outcome of lottery draws is based on luck, there are things you can do to play smarter and increase odds of winning. Whilst I believe that there are many situations in life where you’re not in total control of the outcome, you can stack the deck in your favour and this article will give you some tips on stacking the odds in your favour when playing the lottery. Understanding the odds of winning the jackpot will help you shave off some of those numbers. There are no sure fire ways of winning the lottery otherwise, people would be winning all the time and prizes would be shared and thus smaller. So what we’re going to talk about now is how to start shaving the tiniest off odds off your chances to win the jackpot and maximise the prize you can get. Some of the ideas following may seem blindingly obvious but you’d be surprised at the amount of people making these mistakes over and over, week after week and wasting money! 1. Make your priority to win money not the jackpot. Out of the millions if not tens or even hundreds of millions of people who have played the lottery in your country, the actual number of jackpot winners is such a small percentage which immediately puts your chances of winning the big prize at immediate jeopardy. Therefore your goal should be to maximise winning cash prizes. I would be happy winning £10 on £1 a week then spending £100 and not winning anything and I’m sure you would too. 2. Some numbers are just not worth playing. You might think that it doesn’t matter what numbers you play because it’s all random right? Well to a certain degree it is but remember, we’re trying to shave those odds… think about t his would the odds be better for winning with the numbers 1 3 5 10 22 44 or with the number 1 2 3 4 5 6? I think you’ll agree that the odds of getting the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 drawn on the lottery would be nigh on impossible similarly, choosing all odd or all even numbers also decreases your odds of winning anything. So choosing certain numbers over others is important. Unless you absolutely have to 19 is not the best number to play. Why? Because this is a commonly chosen number as it indicates the first two numbers in most peoples year of births. It won’t help shave the odds but it will help you have a bigger win should your numbers come up! Similarly lucky numbers such as 7, 11 and 13 (or unlucky numbers) would be picked frequently. It could make sense to play the most frequently drawn numbers. numbers. The UK national Lottery have statistics issued on the most frequently drawn numbers at http://www.lottery.co.uk/statistics/
3. Are lottery programs going to help? The short answer is probably not. How many times have you heard of big jackpot winners owing their result to using the latest winning lottery number generator? And if the people who designed such programs were really onto something, would they share it with the world? Perhaps there’s more money in selling a program than winning the jackpot. My best guess is that they’re not worth the money however, some can use algorithms to shade a few percentages off the odds of winning cash prizes. Due diligence is advised before investing in such programs. I would be dubious of anyone claiming that they can predict numbers too! Let’s be honest, if there was such a way, they’d not be sharing it with others! The only way lottery software can help is if you don’t have the time or inclination to become a mathematician. Okay this might appear a bit flippant on the surface but as random as the Lottery is, it’s still numbers and is all mathematical. There is a whole branch of mathematics dedicated to probability theory, number theory and Big number theories. Whilst it would be beyond my scope to go into too much depth into this subject as I am not a qualified mathematician, There are simple formulas you can look into for seeing what the odds are of winning the lottery or indeed a cash prize with any given set of numbers providing you have sufficient data of previous lottery wins (otherwise you’re just going back to the odds of winning the lottery in a more generic for e.g. The odds of matching 6 balls in a 49 ball lotto is 1 in 1 in 13,983,816!) 4. So you should buy more tickets? 4. There are differences of opinions whether this would actually help or not. But for sheer mathematical reasons, Buying more than one ticket is a way to increase your chances of winning money. Remember, we’re not solely concerned and focussed on winning the Jackpot, buying a handful of tickets to may not really do much for your chances to win the Jackpot but will increase your chances of winning cash prizes especially if you’re varied with your number selections. The more you buy the more chances you get and of course one of the easiest and cost effective ways to buy multiple tickets is to play in a syndicate. A syndicate is a pool of lottery players who pay their fee to enter a lottery. That pool will then buy multiple tickets, the more players the more tickets bought. The good news here is that you’ve increased your chances to win something drastically than playing on your own. The downside is, most syndicates mean you have to share the winnings which means whilst you’ll be winning more regularly, you’ll probably be sharing a very small prize amount. There are very few smart lottery syndicates out there that offer you more money on wins than playing on your own. For more information on playing in syndicates, visit my website below. 5. Okay this isn’t so much a winning tip to winning something on the lottery but more often than not you hear people saying that they’ll do x y and z after they’ve won the lottery! Enjoy life! Life is not about winning the lottery. Have fun and play for fun and combine that with the tips above, you could be winning more often than not! Lol… gambling is just not my type. But once a while I’ll buy lottery but I didn’t expect to win any money from it.
